Payroll Associate
Fully Remote (East Coast US) | Full-Time | Professional Services
Salary: $65,000-$85,000 basic salary DOE.

We are partnering with a growing professional services firm that provides specialist advisory and operational support to a diverse portfolio of clients across North America.
As the business continues to expand, it is looking to appoint a Payroll Associate to strengthen its finance function and support the efficient delivery of its payroll and financial operations.

Working closely with senior members of the finance team, you will be responsible for ensuring payroll processes run smoothly, financial records remain accurate and clients and employees receive a consistently high standard of service.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the preparation and processing of payroll for employees and independent contractors across the US and Canada, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery.

Manage timesheet administration, validate payroll information and resolve discrepancies before payroll is finalised.

Prepare, review and distribute client invoices, ensuring billing information is accurate and processed within agreed timelines.

Support the reconciliation and review of employee benefits invoices and other payroll-related financial records.

Act as a key point of contact for payroll-related enquiries, investigating and resolving issues promptly and professionally.

Maintain accurate financial and payroll records, ensuring information is properly documented and readily accessible.

Collaborate with colleagues across the business to identify opportunities to improve processes, streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency.

Provide additional finance and administrative support as required, adapting to the evolving needs of a growing organisation.
About You
We are looking for a proactive, commercially minded individual who combines strong technical payroll knowledge with excellent attention to detail and a genuine sense of ownership.
The ideal candidate will bring:

Approximately 2–6 years of experience in payroll, invoicing or finance operations, ideally gained within a professional services or similarly fast-paced commercial environment.

Practical experience managing multiple stages of the payroll process, with a strong understanding of the importance of accuracy, compliance and meeting deadlines.

Familiarity with US payroll processes, with exposure to Canadian payroll considered advantageous.

Strong numerical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel, alongside the ability to learn new financial systems and technology quickly.

Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to time-sensitive requests.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage professionally with colleagues, employees and external stakeholders.

A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work independently without requiring constant supervision.

A collaborative mindset, adaptability and the confidence to take responsibility for delivering high-quality work.
A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related discipline would be beneficial, although relevant professional experience and a strong understanding of payroll and financial processes are equally valued.
Previous experience within a growing professional services business, financial services organisation or technology-led environment would be particularly relevant.
