So you're on the job market trying to find a job in marketing? It can be a competitive world out there! Here are a few top tips to help you in your job search:
1) Practise your skills by marketing yourself. Make sure your CV and cover letters are extremely well written. They need to catch the attention of hiring managers and persuade them that you are the right person for the position they are trying to fill. Show them your persuasive powers and you will not only convince them to give you an interview but also demonstrate to them that you have what it takes to do a great job in marketing.
2) Make sure you have a great portfolio online. No matter how many qualifications you have, the proof is in the pudding. And the pudding, for a marketer, is their portfolio of excellent and successful previous work. If you are just starting out and haven't had many jobs providing material for your portfolio, work on some projects in your spare time. You just need to have something tangible to point at and say "I made this, and I can make something just as good for you".
3) Network, network, network! For an industry like this, who you know is often even more important than what you know. Maintain good relations with people who have hired you before, and they will be more likely to hire you again and recommend your work to their colleagues. Send Christmas cards, go to conferences, and use social media to build your circle wide.
Following these tips will be a great start for finding your next position in marketing.
